Artist Statement
Although fine art painting was my first passion in the arts, it didn’t give
me the freedom to truly express myself. I was always exploring different painting
types, looking for something that was missing.
So, by almost accident I was introduced to the world of clay. The feel and texture
of clay is so new and exciting. Clay opened up a while new world for me, by allowing
my creativity to expand to worlds in which I could explore marvelous forms and
textures.
Two-dimensional painting was limiting, while in three dimensional sculpture, the
possibilities and ideas were limitless. I have spent the last seven years exploring
and studying techniques in ceramics from building, hollowing, and exploring forms
and textures, and also by having my painting finishes on other ceramic artists’
work as well as my own work . I finish my sculptures with a cold finish of many
layers of paint and wax, applying my skills as a painter to the sculptures I do.
