Pamela Morris Thomford
Artist Statement
Story-telling is one of
the oldest forms of communication. It is also one of the most intimate. It engages
the attention and imagination of both teller and listener. It draws upon a background
of shared experience, and, thereby, creates a bond.
Each of my works tells a story, visually. Some of these narratives are lengthy;
others make only brief comment. Some deal with matters weighing heavily upon
the human heart; others jest light-heartedly. All are intended, however, to
transcend generation, race, and religion; all are intended to remind us of our
similarities – our common and shared humanity.
Biography
Pamela Morris Thomford is an independent studio metalsmith who
works from her home in Perrysburg, Ohio. Having studied American and European
literature, she received a BA degree from Denison University. After raising
four children, she returned to school to study Ceramics at the University of
Toledo and Jewelry and Metals at Bowling Green State University.
Pam has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally. She has participated
in exhibitions in San Francisco, Denver, Chicago, and New York, as well as England,
Portugal, Norway and Japan. Her work has been included in many art and instructional
publications.
Perhaps an influence of her literary background, Pam works in a narrative style.
Using sterling, copper and bronze, she incorporates a variety of found objects
to create not only one-of-a-kind art jewelry and small sculptures, but also
non-traditional objects of faith.
